2008 Scolarship Winner - Sophie Burgoyne

15.04.08

a few words from Sophie………..  I am very excited to receive the Steps Scholarship; it will enable me to travel to Vienna, Austria in July of this year. In Vienna I will attend the ImPulsTanz Festival, which is an international contemporary dance festival that brings together thousands of professional dancers and choreographers over a five-week period. I will stay in Vienna for the duration of the festival that runs from the 13th of July until the 9th of August. During this time I will attend performances, workshops and educational forums relating to dance and theatre. Previous dance makers who have presented their works at ImPulsTanz include Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus, William Forsythe and Anouk Van Dijk. The Exposure to vast amounts of dance that I will receive at ImPulsTanz will enable me, a young dancer from Perth, to continue my innovative input into the local dance community. I feel privileged to be the Steps ambassador of 2008 and look forward to sharing all of my experiences upon my return.
